Qur’anic rhetoric — as an art of persuasive and influential expression within the divine text — possesses a unique capacity to simplify complex educational concepts derived from the Qur’anic text and to transform them into forms that are accessible to the child’s mind. The term “taṣābī” (meaning the simplification of profound concepts without diminishing their intellectual depth or scientific value) refers to the process of converting abstract ideas into tangible forms suitable for a child’s level of perception. This process aligns, in the context of Qur’anic educational studies, with the principle of adapting content to the cognitive capacities of the learner.
The rhetorical devices employed in Qur’anic narratives and imagery, through imagination, representation, brevity, and rhythmic expression, contribute to conveying profound moral and educational concepts from an abstract to a concrete level, thereby laying a foundation for the internalization of values during early childhood.
Qur’anic rhetoric and its stylistic devices, as a tool of taṣābī in presenting Qur’anic educational teachings, play a vital and unparalleled role in nurturing and developing the human fiṭrah (innate disposition) — which forms the core and foundation of all educational principles during the first seven years of life — from the perspective of Qur’anic educational studies.
The findings of this study — based on a descriptive-analytical method applied to Qur’anic texts, focusing on the rhetoric of verses on fiṭrah and prophetic narratives — indicate that employing rhetoric in Qur’anic teachings can serve as a bridge between the inner essence of the human being and the divine Qur’anic instructions, transforming the educational process from external imposition into an experiential engagement in harmony with the child’s innate tendencies.
Thus, rhetoric is not merely an artistic device but a fundamental educational strategy that can be effectively employed to simplify and internalize profound Qur’anic concepts and to cultivate the fiṭrah as the essential foundation of teaching and learning in Islam.
